The latter are called Iax supernovae, and their brightness is extremely consistent, so They are called “standard candles” and are used as a measure of distance in the universe.
A rare type called Iax The type of particle swarms will appear in similar situations, but they release substances at a slower rate and do not emit light. Only about 30 such planets have been observed among the currently known stars. The most interesting thing is that some people have speculated that they will leave an unexploded remains, nicknamed “zombie star”.
Now, astronomers may have discovered conclusive evidence of this type of Iax supernova in the Milky Way for the first time. This celestial body named Sagittarius A East (hereinafter referred to as Sgr A East) is located near the center of the galaxy, close to the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* of the same name.
For decades, Sgr A East The image of the area always appears as a cloud, and most astronomers believe that it is an ordinary supernova remnant or may be a type Ia supernova. But in the latest research, researchers used the Chandra X-ray Observatory to observe this celestial body for 35 days and found that it may be an Iax-type celestial body.
Ping Zhou, the lead author of the research paper, said: “Although we have discovered Iax-type supernovae in other galaxies, until now we have not found evidence of such supernovae in the Milky Way. This discovery is important It is very important to understand the countless ways in which white dwarfs explode.”
The research team came to this conclusion by studying the X-ray spectra of Sgr A East, which can reveal the elements produced in the explosion and the number of them. The researchers said that this explosion was weaker than most explosions, which is in line with the characteristics of the Iax supernova.
The research team also stated that if Sgr A East’s identity is confirmed, it will become the known Iax-type supernova closest to the earth, or it may be the closest zombie star to the earth.
