Indonesia’s Antara News Agency reporter: Last year, China and ASEAN were each other’s largest trading partners for the first time. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN. Last month, you personally made a successful visit to ASEAN countries including Indonesia, which once again consolidated the close cooperation between the two sides. The current relationship between Indonesia and China has reached the highest level since the establishment of diplomatic relations. What do you think is the successful experience in the development of the relationship between the two parties? Looking to the future, where will China-ASEAN relations go?
Wang Yi: Thirty years ago, China and ASEAN established a dialogue relationship and have since been at the forefront of regional cooperation. Confucius said, “Stand up at thirty.” After 30 years of walking together, China and ASEAN have established the common concept of solidarity, mutual assistance and equal treatment, a common destiny of sharing weal and woe, sharing weal and woe, and a common vision of rejuvenating Asia and creating the future.
Wang Yi: Last year, President Xi Jinping attended the China-ASEAN Expo for the first time, and Premier Li Keqiang attended the China-ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting. This fully shows that China attaches great importance to China-ASEAN cooperation and supports ASEAN’s central position. Standing on a new starting point, we are willing to work with ASEAN to build a closer community of shared future and create a more exciting next 30 years.
Wang Yi: We will further provide ASEAN with anti-epidemic support. China is providing the new crown vaccine to ASEAN countries and assisting Indonesia to build a vaccine center in Southeast Asia. In the next step, it will continue to provide key support to the needs of ASEAN countries.
Wang Yi: We will further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with ASEAN. The establishment of a new development pattern will be docked with the “ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework”, promote the early implementation of RCEP, promote the full release of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation, and create new cooperation growth points in the fields of digital economy and sustainable development.
Wang Yi: We will further strengthen strategic cooperation with ASEAN. Work together to eliminate interference, accelerate consultations on the “South China Sea Code of Conduct”, actively carry out maritime pragmatic cooperation, and maintain regional peace and long-term stability.
