How will the precipitation in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau change in the next few years? Chinese scientists give research predictions
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 11 (Reporter Dong Ruifeng) The Qiangtang Plateau located in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will be in the next few years. In a wet state, the summer rainfall is more than 10%higher than the average climate situation-the team of Zhou Tianjun from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, based on historical data and recent interdecadal climate prediction models, recently came to this conclusion.
Recent decadal climate prediction refers to the prediction of the average climate abnormality in the next 2 to 10 years. This is a challenging frontier issue in the field of climate change research.
The research team quantitatively estimated the change of summer precipitation on the Qiangtang Plateau from 2020 to 2027, and pointed out that the predictability of the interdecadal change of summer precipitation on the Qiangtang Plateau originated from The sea temperature anomaly in the vortex area of the North Atlantic subpolar region. The latter will eventually affect the changes in precipitation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau downstream through the induced atmospheric teleconnection wave trains.
As the birthplace of more than 10 important rivers in Asia, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau provides water for life, industry and agriculture for about 40%of the world’s population, and is known as”Asian Water Tower“. Because of its importance in water resources, the changes in precipitation in this area have also attracted much attention.
