Hubble’s new “Monday Picture of the Week”: Spectacular three-way gravitational tug-of-war from interacting galaxies
Because the observation time of the Hubble Space Telescope is very precious, astronomy I don’t want to waste a second. Hubble’s observation schedule is calculated using computer algorithms, which allows it to occasionally collect additional data snapshots between longer observations. This three-body image of the galaxy collision in Arp 195 is such a snapshot. Additional observations such as these not only provide spectacular images but also help determine potential targets for subsequent use of the upcoming NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope.
