NASA “Perseverance” probe is investigating the “garden paving stones” of the ancient lake bed on Mars
“Look at the rock I found: look It looks a bit like paving stones in a garden, maybe bare bedrock,” NASA posted on Twitter a GIF of the rover checking this place. “Materials like this, from the early days of this ancient lake bed, can help capture what the lake looks like.”
“Perseverance” recorded the site for a few days to get more detailed information. Observed. There is a lot of scientific work ahead of this rover, but one of its main tasks is to find evidence of ancient microbial life on the Red Planet. A former lake is a perfect place to investigate the past habitability of Mars.
NASA explained in a statement: “The robotic arm allows the rover to work like a human geologist: Its’hand’ or turret holds and uses scientific tools. The rover’s own’hand tool’ extracts the core from the rock, takes microscopic images, and analyzes the elemental and mineral composition of Martian rocks and soil.”< /p>
NASA’s “Perseverance” probe Arrived on Mars in February and entered its first official scientific activity, with its supporting Ingenuity helicopter acting as a scout. The bedrock survey is a sign of future science, as the rover is exploring the ancient history of Mars.
