The vicissitudes of a “reservoir immigrant village” in southern Fujian: Taiwan’s fine seed base has settled down
China News Service, Zhangzhou, August 29 (Reporter Zhang Jinchuan) In Pingpu Village, Longshan Town, Nanjing County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, an 80 acres of Taiwanese fine seed base is thriving. When a reporter from Chinanews.com walked into the base, they saw that the workers were busy breeding good varieties such as peppers, rapeseed, and Chinese cabbage.
Pingpu Village is introduced from outside and inland. In 2015, Taiwan Nongyou Seed and Seedling Co., Ltd. was introduced to develop the introduction, breeding, planting demonstration and promotion of Taiwanese fruit and flower varieties. What makes Pingpu Village Party Branch Secretary Zhang Faming quite pleased is that the construction of this Taiwanese fine seed base has increased the income of villagers by more than 1.2 million yuan (RMB, the same below) every year.

Zhang Chen believes that it is precisely because a large amount of immigrant assistance funds have been invested in the construction of the village’s infrastructure and the improvement of the living environment, the village has become more beautiful, and Taiwan-funded enterprises have been attracted to settle in.
In Pingpu Village, the courtyard is clean, the road is spacious, and the front and back of the house are green. White-walled and red-tiled buildings stand, small bridges and pavilions are scattered among the flowers and green trees, and the idyllic scenery is beautiful and charming.

Pingpu Village is a village that emerged from the relocation and resettlement of immigrants from the Shanmei Reservoir in Nan’an, Quanzhou, Fujian. It has now become a demonstration village for rural revitalization in Zhangzhou City. In 1972, 508 immigrants from Nan’an moved here.
“Back then, what we were facing was an uncultivated land, and everything had to be started again.” Speaking of the relocation of immigrants 49 years ago, the 73-year-old villager Li Yayuan couldn’t help but said with emotion, “Just moved. Come here, temporarily live in the village’s Bagua Building (built in the 19th year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty), life is very difficult; there is no road, it is very inconvenient to travel, and the ferry boat is used to get in and out of the village.”

Almost half a century has passed, and earth-shaking changes have taken place in Pingpu Village. Like the villagers, Li Yayuan sees it in his eyes and enjoys it. Zhang Faming told reporters that Pingpu Village has a total population of 260 households with 1,140 people and has been rated as one of Fujian’s “Top Ten Well-off Villages in the Province”.
Zhang Faming, who was only 4 months old that year, came to Pingpu Village with the immigrant team and became the party branch secretary of Pingpu Village in 2006. “The villages were dirty, chaotic and poor in the past. In 2012, the Fujian Provincial Immigration Bureau identified it as a’provincial-level village environment comprehensive improvement pilot’, and has invested a lot of reservoir resettlement assistance funds.” Zhang recalled.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Nanjing County Water Resources Bureau, the county invested 220 million yuan to build a standard factory building in the Immigration Pioneer Park. Sustainably support the production and life of immigrants in the reservoir area, thereby ensuring the stable development of the immigrant resettlement areas in the reservoir area.

In recent years, with the financial support of relevant government departments, Pingpu Village has actively carried out comprehensive environmental improvement, and initially built a “pastoral pastoral style” rich and beautiful village, giving the villagers a feeling of home.
“The village introduced reed orange in 1991, and later introduced hemp bamboo. Now, every household grows hemp bamboo, and the large households plant 30 to 40 mu. The income of the villagers is higher than the average level of Nanjing County. “Zhang Fabian said that Pingpu Village is still keeping a close eye on the market, introducing high-quality agricultural products such as flowers, seedlings, and four-season fruits to continuously adjust and optimize the structure of the agricultural industry.

In Pingpu Village, more than 400 villagers have “goed out”, near Nanjing County, Zhangzhou City, Quanzhou, Xiamen, and far away to Singapore, the Philippines and other places to work Construction and installation industry. The village has formed 16 construction teams with an annual income of more than 40 million yuan.
Many villagers have also achieved employment at their doorsteps. The Nanjing Branch of Nongyou Seedlings (China) Co., Ltd., located in Pingpu Village, currently employs more than 20 local villagers, and the peak workload of the Taiwan Fine Seed Base is more than 200 person-times. According to Chen Fuxing, a staff member of the company, the villagers have a fixed job at their doorstep and can take care of their families.
Chen Fuxing said that the company focuses on agricultural high-tech, enhances cross-strait agricultural science and technology exchanges and cooperation, and promotes the development of modern agriculture in Zhangzhou and the transportation of southern vegetables to the north. (End)
