the University of Carlos III in Madrid, Spain, proposed an improved tether design, including thin-film solar cells, in order to collect more energy for the tether plasma circuit for derailment at the end of its life

this idea was put forward through the open discovery idea channel of ESA’s open space innovation platform (oSIP) to seek novel ideas for new space research activities. This innovative concept has been accepted by ESA and will be implemented together with many other concepts
