Taiyuan, January 15 (Xinhua): International Students’ first experience in rural China

liujiabao village left a deep impression on Han Chen (Chinese name). He said, “it’s my first time to visit China’s rural areas. This rural area has a lot of cultural characteristics.”

international students from the school of international education of Shanxi University of Finance and economics recently went to liujiabao village, Xiaodian District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province to visit the village’s facility agriculture, try on Chinese traditional costumes, learn ceramics and lacquer art, and experience intangible cultural heritage skills such as lion dance, drum music and fire therapy

liujiabao village is the hometown of Wang Qiong, a great scholar in the Ming Dynasty, about 30 kilometers away from the urban area of Taiyuan. In recent years, the village has deeply dug into farming culture and folk culture to create an intangible cultural block. Many intangible cultural projects such as paper cutting, lacquer painting, wood carving and qiancengdi have settled in, and “out of the circle” from an unknown small village has become a network red punch in place

international students from the school of international education of Shanxi University of Finance and economics visited liujiabao village, Xiaodian District, Taiyuan and tried on Chinese traditional clothes. More than 50 intangible cultural heritage project courtyards are scattered in the village. Local specialties such as sacrificial soup, eight bowls, small shop Lantern Festival and zhanpianzi have become a business card of Taiyuan’s “market culture”. At the same time, liujiabao village displays “rural memory” through dozens of old rural businesses such as car repair shops and rattles, as well as agricultural tools such as columbine and plow harrow

Han Chen, 23, is from Casablanca, Morocco. He said that this visit enabled him to understand a lot of Chinese traditional culture. “Grandpa Wang Baowang, 77, began to teach himself calligraphy and painting at the age of 7. He has been persistent for so many years and focused on doing one thing, which is very worth learning.”

“this is the first rural area I went to after three years in China. The infrastructure here is perfect and the roads are clean. I saw a lot of interesting things and can’t forget them.” Pakistani student Wang Shoufu (Chinese name) said that in his opinion, liujiabao village is not like a traditional rural area. He hopes to see more Chinese villages after the epidemic is over

another Pakistani student Dahei (Chinese name) is very interested in facility agriculture in liujiabao village. He said that China has high-yield seeds and rich crop yields. “If the seeds of Chinese crops are introduced to Pakistan, the output of Pakistani crops can be increased and the life of farmers will become better.”

Zhang Yanling, Dean of the school of international education of Shanxi University of Finance and economics, expressed the hope that international students would understand China’s local conditions and customs through their personal experience in rural China and become messengers of international cultural exchanges.
