It is reported that virgin orbit used the first of the three aircraft for USSF, and the company is focusing on international business expansion.
This specially modified Boeing 747 can take off from the conventional runway and launch a launcherone rocket at high altitude.
After being separated from the body, the rocket can ignite by itself and rush to the predetermined orbit with the customer’s payload.
During the weekend’s “straight up” mission, the launcherone system carried seven satellites of the U.S. space force.
At 22:50 p.m. local time on Friday, the Cosmo girl “Mothership” took off smoothly from the concrete runway of Mojave air port, California.
About two hours later, the monitoring system reported that all seven satellites had been successfully deployed.
Dan Hart, CEO of virgin rail, said:
It is a great honor to provide delivery services and corresponding technical support to the space force (USSF) and the Department of Defense (DoD). Through this mission, virgin orbit team and launcherone system have proved themselves to customers again.
New atlas pointed out that this mission marked the fourth consecutive successful completion of the mission by Virgin orbit. At the same time, the company is trying to demonstrate its flexible and responsive satellite launch capability.
Later this year, virgin orbit is expected to conduct its first orbital launch in the UK mainland – at the British space agency and the Royal Air Force’s Cornwall space port.
